Agents of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) and the Rapid Action Group (GAR) of the Guardia Civil have carried out this Monday an important anti-drug operation in Ibiza with simultaneous searches in several points of the island and more than a dozen detainees. According to sources in the case, for the moment there are about 13 detainees, most of whom are British and two Colombians. Eleven of the arrests were made in Ibiza and another two in Colombia. In this sense, the Group of Teams Against Organized Crime of the Guardia Civil has worked in collaboration with the National Police of Colombia in the framework of this coup against drug trafficking, called Via Fora. According to the Guardia Civil, the operation deployed yesterday managed to dismantle an international criminal organization based on the island of Ibiza. This criminal group was dedicated to the elaboration, importation and distribution of different types of narcotic substances.
The dozen searches began in the early hours of Monday morning in different parts of the island of Ibiza and were carried out simultaneously. In the municipality of Ibiza a local Pere Francès street was searched, located in the neighborhood of es Pratet, where the agents have deployed an important device around 12.00 hours this Monday in which they seized several quantities of narcotic substances, in addition to making several arrests. Neighbors and workers in the area of es Pratet were surprised by this large police deployment, which generated a lot of expectation to know what was happening. In Vila, other premises were also searched, such as one located in Avenida España, as well as basements of houses. Other points in the municipalities of Sant Josep and Sant Antoni were also searched.
The Guardia Civil plans to report today in more detail the outcome of this operation Via Fora, in an event to be attended by the chief colonel of the area, Alejandro Hernandez.
