After months of waiting, one of the most awaited moments for electronic music lovers and nightlife fans has arrived. This Friday, from half past eleven at night, the new nightclub [UNVRS] opened its doors, delighting all those who have sold out tickets to enjoy a night marked in red on the calendar of the island of Ibiza.
Already on arrival at [UNVRS] you are warned of the theme of the club, with a flying saucer embedded right at the entrance, which gives a good preview of what will be the theme, which will happen throughout the length and breadth of the club.
A theme that is more than present in the jewel in the club’s crown, the main room. Completely renovated, with some industrial touches, the eyes are almost inevitably drawn to the huge screen that projects space-themed images just behind the DJ booth. In this room, the sound and light show is a constant, making thousands of people dance and vibrate.
This large room is reached by a flight of stairs where almost everyone stops to get a panoramic view of the surroundings. But, just before, there is one of the most photographed spots, a particular booth where the poses are repeated everywhere.
As you walk through the discotheque, passing through one door after another, you discover the nooks and crannies. In addition to the side terraces, there is a hamburger bar of the Vicio chain, integrated into the electronic atmosphere, or the Wild Comet, a small room that is really nothing more than a bathroom with a booth in the centre. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the discotheque is its imposing dome. Completely renovated for the occasion, its interior decoration and its perspective from the outside are surprising.
Expectation
The wait for the opening of [UNVRS] has generated enormous expectation and proof of this is that before it opened its doors there were already dozens of people queuing at the discotheque in Sant Rafel to get inside. When the clock struck midnight, there were already many people crowding into the dance hall, which by one o’clock in the morning was practically bursting at the seams.
Some of the most renowned DJs in the world, such as The Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones and Joseph Capriati, were performing. However, the star of the electronic music constellation was undoubtedly Carl Cox.
The popular British DJ became the most recognisable face of Ibiza nightlife for years. However, he parked his residencies on the island in 2016 and has not performed in Ibiza since. With the opening of [UNVRS] he also returns, not only for this Friday’s opening, but with a residency that will run every Sunday from 21 June to 22 September.
Project
It has been almost six years since 2019, when the former Privilege, which was once the popular Ku, where Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé even performed their legendary song «Barcelona» in 1987, closed its doors. Since then, the iconic nightclub, recognised as the largest in the world, had been closed until this Friday night, which has been thoroughly remodelled with an investment of eight million euros to become [UNVRS].
The project, which the property has described as ‘the most ambitious ever dreamed of by any night-time entrepreneur’ was, after such a long wait, coming to life on Friday. Whether they are aware of the magnitude of this project or not, the reality is that the discotheque was packed for this opening with famous clubbers - lovers of electronic music - who did not want to miss this opening party.
