The rains will arrive this Thursday to the Pitiusas Islands

The high temperature alert in the Pitiusas Islands, which was activated by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) this past weekend, saw temperatures reach 39 degrees in Sant Joan de Labritja and 36 degrees in Sant Antoni de Portmany on Sunday.

After a very hot weekend, the Pitiusa Major recorded a slight drop in the maximum temperatures this Monday in the north of the island. On the other hand, there were no major changes in the rest of the municipalities.

These weather conditions will remain similar until Wednesday, when the agency is forecasting a considerable drop in minimum temperatures. In some parts of northern Ibiza, these could reach 21 degrees Celsius.

It will be Thursday when the weather will change drastically in the Pitiusas islands, with the activation of the yellow alert for coastal phenomena, heavy rain and storms.

In this regard, the State Meteorological Agency did not activate the warning until Tuesday. The agency's forecast indicates that rain will arrive in the early hours of Thursday morning, with cloudy intervals and showers expected in the afternoon that could be locally heavy and accompanied by storms.

The yellow alert for heavy rainfall will be activated at midnight on Thursday and will remain in place until 11.59pm on the same day, with an expected accumulated rainfall of 30 mm in one hour. The warning for coastal phenomena will be in place from 10:00 to 21:59, during which time a north-easterly wind of 40–50 km/h (force 6) and waves of up to 2 metres are expected.

Friday is also expected to be rainy, although Aemet has not yet provided further details about its forecast for this day.
