The Capitanía Marítima of Ibiza has imposed a fine of 200,000 euros on the owner of the megayacht ‘Attila’, which ran aground off the beach of es Pujols, in Formentera, on the first of July.
The fine was imposed for dangerous navigation close to the coast, in addition to disregarding the requirements of the Capitanía Marítima.
Although the vessel unchained by its own means, as this newspaper have already reported in this, the Maritime Captaincy had requested the provisional retention of the vessel for sailing close to the coast, a manoeuvre considered dangerous, especially on a beach crowded with bathers such as that of es Pujols.
In addition, the Capitanía Marítima had asked the shipowner for a refloating plan and an inspection of the case to check the safety measures of the vessel, valued at more than 70 million euros. This request was ignored, which increased the amount of the fine.
