María Marí still finds it hard to believe what happened. Her five-year-old kitten, Oli, somehow managed to cross the entire island and return home to Puig d’en Valls. «Just think, my little Oli might even become famous,» said María yesterday, as she recounted the story to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera.
On September 12th, María decided to move to a house in the Sa Cala area of Ibiza for a few days, taking two of her cats with her. Shortly after arriving, however, Oli disappeared to the dismay of his owner, and there was no way to find him. María put up posters all over the area, but received no information about her cat’s whereabouts.
‘I thought he might have gone to a nearby house or even been hit by a vehicle,’ he admitted.
Almost a month later, covered in mud and very thin ‘because he was a huge cat,’ he reappeared at the house in Puig d’en Valls. «I can’t understand it. My nephew called me and told me he had turned up. Now he doesn’t want to go out because he’s clearly scared. The poor thing managed to find his way back on his own, and we’re all amazed that he was able to travel 30 kilometres. I’ve never heard of anything like it,« he explained.
‘It seems he didn’t like the countryside,’ joked María.
Oli’s owner fears that the cat, given his weight loss, has not eaten during this time.
In any case, the surprising story of this pet has a happy ending, and now we can only hope that the animal makes a full recovery at his home in Puig d’en Valls.
