The Iberia strike has forced the cancellation of more than 30 flights to and from Balearic airports scheduled for this Friday and next Monday.
Specifically, according to information from the airline company gathered by Europa Press, most of the cancellations affect inter-island connections.
Thus, Son Sant Joan has 34 cancellations, most of them departures and arrivals to Ibiza (12) and Menorca (14) and some connections to Madrid.
By day, five cancellations are scheduled for Friday and six on Saturday. Of the flights scheduled for Sunday and Monday, ten have been cancelled each day.
A total of 444 flights have been cancelled. These include 270 Iberia flights, 64 Iberia Express flights and 110 Air Nostrum flights.
The company has reminded passengers who have booked flights affected by the strike for 5, 6, 7 or 8 January that they can request a change of travel date or reimbursement of the amount paid for their tickets through the Reservations Management. Those customers with flights not directly affected by the strike will be able to change the date of travel or request a voucher.
NO AGREEMENT BETWEEN COMPANY AND UNIONS
Iberia and the unions CCOO, UGT, USO and Comité Intercentros are meeting again this Thursday after their meeting yesterday to avoid the strike called in the handling service from tomorrow until January 8 ended without agreement.
After yesterday afternoon's meeting, the unions decided to maintain the stoppages in the Iberia Airport Service handling service (the subsidiary that provides ground services) from 5 to 8 January, coinciding with the Epiphany holiday and the return operation.
The company yesterday regretted the lack of agreement with the unions calling the strike and reiterated that the mere call of the strike has already caused «enormous damage» to thousands of people who are seeing their journeys disrupted, as well as to the more than 90 airlines that Iberia Airport Services serves and which have been forced to cancel and modify flights.
Iberia also stressed the lack of justification for the strike, given that all jobs, as well as wage conditions and social benefits are guaranteed «for life» by the V Agreement of the sector in all subrogation processes thanks, among other things, «to the work done over the years by the union representatives who are now calling for a strike».
For their part, after yesterday's meeting, CCOO and UGT denounced that Iberia «really does not want to carry out» a negotiation to solve the situation of the handling workers, but reiterated their willingness to resume negotiations in order to find a way out of the conflict.
