A reckless homicide and two offences against road safety. These are the crimes that the National Police have charged a 43-year-old Spanish woman, arrested on Monday night as the alleged perpetrator of the fatal hit-and-run of a woman in Vila. The suspect was located and arrested at her home thanks to information provided by eyewitnesses to the fatal hit-and-run of a woman in Port de la Savina street, in the Ses Figueretes neighbourhood. The driver tested positive for alcohol and drugs in the tests carried out by the Atestados unit of the local police.
The victim was run over by a car that left the scene of the incident and in its flight hit several motorbikes that were parked in the street.
The incident occurred at around 19.15 hours. After being alerted to the incident, three ambulances were mobilised to the scene, two from 061 and one from the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, as well as several patrols from the Vila Local Police and the National Police, who have taken charge of the investigation.
The rescuers tried to revive the woman but her injuries were life-threatening.
According to the first investigations gathered by Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the woman was hit when she was crossing at the wrong point. After the impact, the car continued at high speed.
The accident took place in the area around Carrer Port de la Savina and Avinguda Sant Jordi, a road that was partially closed due to the presence of official vehicles and to facilitate the development of the investigation.
According to police sources on Tuesday, the woman under investigation will be brought before the courts as the perpetrator of reckless homicide, as well as two offences against road safety, one for leaving the scene of the accident and the other for testing positive for alcohol and drugs.
