The autopsy of a young tourist who did ‘balconing’ in Ibiza determines that he consumed various drugs and alcohol

The young man allegedly carried out this practice because he could not enter his room

John McKenna was only 22 years old when he came to Ibiza in June 2023. Like many he came to spend a few days on the island and was staying in Sant Antoni, where a small incident ended his life: balconing.

The young man's autopsy is out and forensics have concluded that the young man was jumping between third-floor balconies when he fell and crashed to the ground, reports the BBC. But that was not the only reason. According to the same media outlet, forensic experts have determined that the young man had a combination of alcohol and drugs in his system that most likely influenced his stability and led to a fatal outcome.

The combination was as follows: alcohol, ketamine, MDMA and cocaine in his system.

McKenna was seen jumping from his friend's balcony, according to the investigation, as the room guest reported that the young man could not enter his room because his partner was sleeping and apparently he would not have a key to the room.

‘The balcony had a hip-high railing that was ‘easily overcome’, Ibiza police said in a report to the coroner,’ the BBC reports.

The inquest in Cockermouth, meanwhile, found that the young man's family had raised money for a charity that helps tourists stay safe. In total they raised more than £4,000 for Jack The Lad, set up by the family of Jack Howe, 19, from Kent, who died in a quad bike accident in Greece in 2019.
