The Mirror has published a report claiming that Ibiza, one of the main holiday destinations for the British, is being hit by a ‘plague of snakes’ which has led tourists to rethink their holidays.
According to testimonies gathered by the newspaper, several visitors claim to be 'too terrified to swim' after spotting snakes up to 1.8 metres long in the waters around the island.
One of the most striking episodes took place last week in the waters of Portinatx, in the north of the island. Two people out sailing in an inflatable boat got a big surprise when they came across a snake approximately 1.70 metres long slithering through the sea.

This problem has also been reported in the Italian press. La Stampa published an article entitled 'Ibiza, between crystalline waters and giant snakes: the island faces an ecological emergency', referencing the snake that some bathers found in Portinatx while on their boat and explaining how the conflict began. Similarly, La Repubblica has also reported on these reptiles in Ibiza, specifically the case in Portinatx. This media outlet published an article titled "Ibiza is invaded by the horseshoe snake: after sightings of the snake in the water, terrified tourists no longer bathe".
