The Senegalese man who last Friday brutally assaulted two agents of the Sant Josep Local Police after being caught offering drugs to some tourists has already been brought before the courts. The duty judge has ordered him to be remanded in custody without bail for a crime against public health, another crime of assault against police officers and another of serious injury.

The detainee admitted to the judge that he had been caught with various narcotic substances, including cocaine, MDMA and ketamine. However, he provided an «implausible» account of the incident, stating in court that «some foreigners» had given him the drugs. Regarding the serious injuries sustained by one of the Sant Josep local police officers who tried to arrest him, he claimed that they were caused by an «accidental fall».

This Senegalese man has a judicial record in Denmark and is banned from entering the European Schengen area. He is currently in Ibiza, which means he has broken this ban. He is in an irregular situation on the island, with no roots or work, which increases the risk of him fleeing after the serious crimes committed last Friday. This is why the judge has ordered his provisional imprisonment without bail.

In the judicial documentation, to which this newspaper has had access, it is clear that he is a «well-known regular» in Platja d'en Bossa, a place «where a group of foreigners of African origin, perfectly organised, distribute drugs and attack agents when they try to identify or arrest them. There are many reports in this regard». In this regard, it should be noted that this Senegalese citizen has previous arrests for robbery with violence and crimes against public health.

This brutal attack prompted the outrage of José Antonio Granados, head of the Sant Josep Local Police, who emphasised the dangers of his profession and the resources available to him. In this regard, he called for tasers to be used.

On Saturday, Vicent Roig, the mayor of Sant Josep, used his social media accounts to share his thoughts on these serious events: «It is outrageous that a Sant Josep police officer doing his duty should find himself in this situation. I hope that the insular direction of the State Administration takes note and acts. We have repeatedly called for illegal immigration to be dealt with firmly, and this is the situation we are in. Courage and a speedy recovery».
