On Saturday, to coincide with the centenary of Eduard Micus's birth (in Höxter on 12 July 1925), the long-awaited commemorative exhibition opened at the Espacio Micus in Jesús. Taking place between 19:00 and 22:00, the event paid tribute to the legacy of this German painter, who trained at the Stuttgart Academy with Willi Baumeister before settling on the island in 1972. There, he transformed an old farmhouse into his home and art studio.

Curated by his daughter Katja Micus, the exhibition offers a journey through the artist's creative development, from his early works characterised by axial symmetry to his distinctive 'coudrages', stitched pieces that explore the tension between balance and rupture. In the main room, which is arranged with the austerity and clarity that defined both Micus's work and his living space, pieces representative of more than four decades of his career are on display.

To accompany the honoree's work on the day of its inauguration, two pieces were included: one for flute and one in the form of a dance. These pieces emphasised the continuity of a shared artistic sensibility. Conceived by the artist himself in 1989 as a place of dialogue between art, architecture, and the island's natural light, the Espacio Micus thus became a meeting point between generations and creative languages.

The inauguration was attended by a large audience, including prominent figures from Ibiza's cultural scene. Gallery owners, artists, collectors, musicians and other figures from the local, national and international art scene were in attendance, and the event provided an opportunity to appreciate the enduring legacy of Micus on the island. Among the visitors were the distinguished poet Antonio Colinas and the Ibizan artist Pedro Asensio.

During the afternoon, visitors toured the rooms of the exhibition space, creating an atmosphere of respect, contemplation and remembrance. The layout of the exhibition allowed visitors to rediscover key elements of Micus's work, such as his use of colour and different materials, including wood, canvas, thread and aluminium, as well as his exploration of duality as a creative driving force, such as the contrast between serenity and activity, and the difference between the unaltered and the altered.

The opening ceremony also included a short speech by Kayja. As usual at the centre, the exhibition will remain open to the public with free admission until the end of the year.

Through this exhibition, Espacio Micus paid tribute to its founder on the centenary of his birth and reaffirmed its commitment to disseminating contemporary art on the island and preserving the legacy of one of Ibiza's most unique artists.
