For a town with such a maritime connection as Portinatx, the festivity of Carmen's Day has a very special symbolism. And so it has made itself felt with this Sunday's celebration.
The celebration began at 7 p.m. with mass sung by the Sant Joan de Labritja choir in the chapel of Portinatx. Once the mass was over, and after the imposition of the scapulars - a devotional object - a small parade was held.
At eight o'clock, one of the most eagerly awaited moments for the attendees arrived, and the Virgen del Carmen left the Portinatx chapel to embark.
For about 45 minutes, the patron saint of the sea sailed in homage to all those who dedicate their lives to the sea and in recognition of those who have lost their lives at sea.
After the procession, the Virgin returned to the chapel accompanied by the music and dance of Sa Colla de Labritja.
