On Monday, the owners of the Hotel Florencio in Sant Antoni de Portmany admitted that they were baffled by Sunday afternoon’s incident, in which a 27-year-old Portuguese man died after plunging to his death from their establishment. They were certain, however, that it was not an episode of ‘balconing’ related to alcohol or drug consumption.
According to their account in Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the young man fell from the first floor, not the third or fourth as initially suggested. They also ruled out the possibility that he fell while trying to move from one room to another.
«Neither the young man nor his friend had caused any problems, and we do not know what could have happened to him», the hotel officials insisted.
The hotel deeply regretted the incident, expressing their condolences to family and friends, and assured that they were cooperating with the authorities to clarify the facts, ‘ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests at all times,’ they insisted. They immediately made themselves available to the family of the deceased, whose father arrived on the island yesterday to take care of the necessary procedures to repatriate the body.
