In recent days, the Ibiza Local Police have stepped up security checks across the city, with a particular focus on traffic, public transport and reckless driving. The campaign has resulted in numerous fines, particularly for professional drivers.

In terms of traffic offences, a taxi driver has been fined after testing positive for drugs. Additionally, 14 complaints have been filed for various traffic regulation offences.

The inspections also revealed various irregularities in the transport sector. A total of six public transport services were found to be operating without the necessary authorisation, resulting in fines of €15,000 each. Additionally, seven cases were identified where vehicles had not been registered, resulting in a fine of €1,001 per vehicle.

In areas with the highest tourist traffic, four incidents of illegal solicitation of customers were recorded, an activity that is also punishable by law. During the checks, officers also intercepted a vehicle travelling with loud music and DJ equipment installed, in breach of noise pollution regulations.

Speed checks, carried out using radar, resulted in a total of 142 fines for speeding. In one of the most serious cases, a vehicle was travelling at 104 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. More than half of the vehicles fined belonged to the public transport sector, including taxis and private hire vehicles (VTC).

In contrast, the driver of a Lamborghini Huracán was reported for reckless driving after being caught making sudden lane changes and accelerating in a manner typical of racing on public roads.

Nine vehicles were towed away as a result of this operation.

The local police have reminded drivers of the importance of respecting traffic regulations and maintaining a responsible attitude while driving.
