On Tuesday afternoon, a 51-year-old Czech tourist died in the Platja d'en Bossa area of Ibiza.
Lifeguards reportedly pulled her from the water unconscious. The official cause of death is currently unknown. Members of the Ibiza Local Police, the National Police and the 061 emergency medical service attended the scene.
The incident occurred at around 5 p.m., when the swimmer, who was approximately 10 metres from the shore, reportedly suffered a sudden attack. This was according to eyewitnesses and the lifeguards who attended to her.
Rescue service professionals came to her aid immediately and began resuscitation manoeuvres on the beach, but were unable to save her. «It does not appear to have been a drowning incident. It was something sudden, and the water was only waist-deep,» explained one of the lifeguards present.
A psychologist from the emergency services attended to the victim's daughter, who was on the beach at the time of her mother's death.
