Tragic. That’s how it was in Ibiza this past weekend, after two accidents occurred on the Santa Eulàlia road.
The first happened on Saturday before reaching Can Marçà. According to the 061 emergency services, a car and a motorbike collided violently. There were two people on the motorbike, one of whom suffered serious multiple injuries and went into cardiorespiratory arrest, ultimately dying as a result. According to Crónica Balear, she was a nurse who worked at Can Misses Hospital.
The other motorcyclist, a 34-year-old Spanish man, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Can Misses Hospital in a critical condition. The two people travelling in the car suffered minor injuries.
The Civil Guard stated that the car veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the motorbike. The driver of the car was given a breathalyser test by the Civil Guard, which proved negative.
The accident caused severe traffic jams in both directions.
Early on Sunday morning
The second accident took place on Sunday. According to SAMU 061, it occurred at around 2 a.m. on the EI-200 road in Santa Eulàlia, at the 4.5 kilometre marker.
Two vehicles were involved: a motorbike and a car. The two motorcyclists, a 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, died instantly. According to 061, they showed signs of being incompatible with life, so all that could be done was to certify their deaths.
The car driver, a 58-year-old Uruguayan man, was taken to Can Misses Hospital with multiple injuries but was discharged on Sunday at midday. Early morning reports from the Ibiza and Formentera Health Department state that the injured man is in a stable condition and will remain under observation in the Emergency Department.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
This tragic accident occurred in the same area where, just hours earlier, another motorcyclist had died and their passenger had been taken to Can Misses Hospital in a critical condition after colliding with a car that had crossed into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the motorcycle.
