A fire broke out on Saturday evening at around 9 p.m. in the legendary neighbourhood of Sa Penya in the municipality of Ibiza. Specifically, on Bon Aire Street.
According to Ibiza Town Council, a taxi driver alerted the local police that a house was on fire.
While the Ibiza Fire Brigade was on its way, local police officers managed to gain access to the interior of the house by sawing through the bars on the front door and extinguishing the flames. At around 9.20 p.m., the fire brigade arrived at the house and continued the firefighting efforts. A bed and some belongings inside the flat were burned.
According to reports from the Town Hall, there are no injuries or casualties. The damage to the building is yet to be quantified.
The building is publicly owned by Ibiza Town Council and ‘had recently been renovated and was ready to be handed over to the National Police to be used as accommodation for its officers’, according to Ibiza Town Council.
At present, the cause of the fire is unknown. Mayor Rafa Triguero accompanied the local police patrol from the outset.
Once the flames had been extinguished and the fire declared to be out, the Ibiza Local Police proceeded to replace the bars on the street door.
