A man with limited mobility has barricaded himself in a house in the Siesta neighbourhood of Santa Eulàlia in Ibiza with a revolver.
The man, who is a Portuguese national, was due to receive assistance from the municipality’s social services as he is currently unable to care for himself; his wife is currently in hospital.
The social worker entered the man’s home to assist him, but he became extremely agitated and threatened to take his own life. After the social worker alerted the Civil Guard, officers arrived at the scene. The man then barricaded himself in and threatened to shoot anyone who tried to enter the house.
A negotiator from the Civil Guard was flown in from Mallorca by helicopter. After brief negotiations, they managed to get the man to hand over the weapon, which turned out to be a blank-firing gun.
Minutes later, he was treated by medical services at the scene.
