A major scare in a neighbourhood community in Platja d’en Bossa located between Pere Matutes Noguera Avenue and Platja d’en Bossa Promenade after a man attempted to jump from the balcony of a fourth-floor flat.
The incident took place on Friday morning at around 9.30 a.m., when an Ibiza Local Police officer went to a residence on the aforementioned street to serve a court summons on an individual.
According to details provided by the Vila Town Council, the person notified, an Italian citizen, was inside the home accompanied by several other individuals, all of whom showed signs of being under the influence of narcotic substances. When asked to identify himself, one of his companions struggled with the person who was going to identify himself, preventing him from doing so and assaulting and pushing the officer.
Faced with this situation, and given that several other individuals left the house in a hostile manner, the local police officer requested reinforcements and took refuge in a neighbouring house until more officers arrived.
After the reinforcements arrived, they finally managed to gain access to the house, where the companion who had previously assaulted the officer, in a highly agitated state, went to the terrace with the intention of jumping.
The officers were able to grab hold of one of his legs and prevent him from falling into the void, managing to pull him back into the building and restrain him until the arrival of the SAMU 061 emergency services, who sedated him and then transferred him to Can Misses Hospital, where he remains under observation.
Two of the police officers involved sustained minor injuries during the incident.
When the individual is discharged from hospital, he will be transferred as a detainee to the Ibiza National Police station to be brought before the courts on suspicion of assaulting a law enforcement officer.
Nightmare in the community
According to what the daughter of the owners of one of the flats in the residential complex told this newspaper, the flat is rented to a man who ‘has been causing problems since he arrived’ four years ago.
Apparently, the woman went on to explain, the events that took place on Friday morning occurred in the context of a party that was being held in the rented flat, something that, according to these neighbours, was very common.
The tenant of the flat where the events took place has been in the building since 2021, when the owner, who lives in Mallorca, rented the flat to him. According to the neighbours, they have suffered continuous problems since then. Not only parties until the early hours of the morning, but also constant visitors and a constant flow of people that some neighbours link to drugs and prostitution. They also claim that during many seasons, this neighbour is absent and sublets the flat to third parties, which has multiplied the conflicts.
The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that the building has had to install security cameras. One resident of the building reports that last week the front door was kicked in, and explains that they often notify the owner but get no response. Neighbours agree that the situation has been going on for years.
