A bad weather forecast for Thursday resulted in more tourists than usual visiting the Marina district in Ibiza’s capital. However, this did not result in an increase in sales as would usually be expected in such circumstances.
Omar Ramis of the well-known Porto Salé restaurant told Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera that «there are more people around, but they only buy souvenirs». «They eat less», he said, «but this is the new reality we are seeing this season. People are spending less than in previous years. Although there is more activity at night, during the day there is nothing going on. Today [Thursday] is different because it is cloudy and rain is forecast».
Even so, several shops in the area have reported a significant increase in sales, since, according to one employee, tourists «get active and come out when it rains».
