The deceased has been named as 35-year-old Michele Noschese, also known as DJ Godzi. His family has filed a complaint requesting that the officers be investigated for homicide, and his father told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he died while in police custody, a claim that has not been confirmed by official sources.
According to a report issued on Tuesday by the Civil Guard Command in the Balearic Islands, on Saturday morning officers responded to a call regarding an alleged crime of threats in Santa Eulària.
Upon arrival, the officers found that a person with visible signs of being under the influence of drugs was suffering from hallucinations and had broken into the home of an elderly neighbour, whom he threatened with a knife.
The officers attempted to subdue the aggressor, at which point he began to convulse. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until medical services arrived, but ultimately they were unable to save his life.
Investigation
The Armed Forces have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, the results of which will be referred to the relevant judicial authority.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere Del Mezzogiorno, the events took place on Friday night at the music producer’s home on the island, where he was hosting a party. It was the loud music that angered the neighbours, who called the Civil Guard.
«The family has requested an independent forensic examination, and the Spanish justice system has opened an investigation. The Italian consulate in Barcelona is also following the case closely», reports the aforementioned media outlet.
Noschese, who holds a degree in Economics and Commerce, had been living on the island for 10 years, where he found his niche to continue his career as a DJ and music producer. The artist even played for Napoli’s youth team before focusing on music.
