Futuro Vegetal is back in action in Ibiza. In the early hours of Tuesday, August 6, several climate activists have snuck into Leo Messi's mansion on the island to spray it with black and red paint and pose with a banner with the following writing: "Help the planet. Eat the rich. Abolish the Police".
The environmental group says, in a statement, that with this "action of non-violent civil disobedience" they intend to denounce "the continuation by the Government in the policies that aggravate the Climate Crisis, as well as the unequal responsibility in it". The organization also points out that "against all logic, Sánchez's policies are still aimed at subsidizing large meat and energy corporations, the main responsible for the increase in the Earth's average temperature".
According to them, Messi acquired his mansion in Ibiza for "the exorbitant figure of 11 million euros", which is also an "illegal construction".
The impact of Can Rova
Bilbo Bassaterra, spokesman for the environmental group, says that "this is just another example of how the law does not work equally for all", noting that "this same week on the island has been evicted almost 200 workers from a settlement without a housing solution while the Popular Party, hand in hand with Vox, plan the legalization of illegal buildings in exchange for payment".
For the activist, these types of policies are "at the service of those who have the most and directly attack the rights of the rest of the population".
Tourism in the Balearic Islands
The group stresses that "the regional government continues to promote the tourism industry as the solution to all the problems of the islands", forgetting the heat waves, the housing crisis or drought, and sentenced: "Now more than ever we need popular organization to stop the feet of the most devastating industries".
It should be recalled that Futuro Vegetal was the organization whose activists circumvented Ibiza airport security to paint a private jet and stick to its wings, as well as spray paint on a megayacht in the port of Vila, all this in July 2023.
