In Ibiza, finding housing has become increasingly difficult and, for many, paying rent has become simply impossible. A recent report by the British channel BBC Three has brought this reality to light: civil servants, police officers and tourism workers forced to live in cars, vans or makeshift tents in the absence of affordable housing alternatives.
The situation is the same for those working in hotels, restaurants or luxury villas. Despite having jobs, many are unable to find available or affordable housing. ‘There are no houses to rent even if we earn some money,’ explains one resident who survives in a caravan on a plot of land.
