Stefanie Daub was stunned by what seemed to be a relaxing and peaceful boat trip around the waters off Ibiza and Formentera. At one point during the crossing, she looked out to sea and saw a snake swimming swiftly as if it were just another swimmer.
Stefanie recorded this unusual moment and shared it on the 'Ibiza Winter Residents' Facebook group, explaining that she had found the snake swimming in the Ses Balandres area.
«They are swimming the 700 to 1,000 metres to ses Margalides island to eat lizards and peregrine falcon eggs. I pray that the birds of the islands are protected from the snakes that come swimming in. Horror», said Timotheus Freytag in a comment on this video.
Other users were amazed to see that snakes can swim: «Since when do snakes swim? What a danger», commented Ana Belén. Other users say that they will not go ‘back into the water’.
The sighting of the swimming snake has also prompted some humorous comments, such as «They're just travellers on their way to the dance floor».
If you find a snake, either on land or at sea, you can proceed calmly to kill it, as it is considered an invasive species in the Pitiusas, islands where they continue to spread uncontrollably despite the proliferation of traps to hunt them.
