The Local Police of Sant Joan checked this Wednesday that the concessionaire of Cala d'en Serra now complies with the authorization granted by the City Council, which is 18 hammocks, after the environmental organization Amics de la Terra denounced on social networks the ‘colonization’ of this small cove in the municipality of Sant Joan and published images in which 30 hammocks could be counted.
Having verified that the concessionaire is now operating within the authorised limits, the Sant Joan Town Hall announced yesterday that they will conduct additional inspections throughout the season to ensure that all coastal concessions adhere strictly to the terms of their authorisations.
The Consistory has concluded that if non-compliance is detected, Sant Joan will proceed to open the corresponding sanctioning proceedings. For the time being, the concessionaire has avoided sanction by removing the additional sun loungers that were installed after the infringement was publicised in the media.
Amics de la Terra denounced on social media that the concessionaire of Cala d'en Serra «has taken the best areas of this small cove, leaving only the entrance passageway free». «Summer has just started and the sunbeds are already pushing us off the beach», complained the environmental organisation on Instagram, which also wondered whether sunbeds are necessary in a place like Cala d'en Serra. «Remember», Amics de la Terra pointed out to the Ibizan town councils, «that there are also residents and tourists who want wild and natural places. Don't sell every corner with a bit of sand».
