Once again, caravans and motorhomes are the predominant feature in the Sa Jovería car park. This is a place whose entrance is closed to the public by a metal rope, preventing all types of vehicles from entering. This new proliferation is directly related to the eviction of the Es Gorg car park by Vila Town Hall on Monday 7 July. Following this eviction, many people moved their mobile homes to the Sa Jovería car park. On the same day, the barrier preventing these vehicles from entering the car park was raised.
The fact that the settlement of Sa Jovería has proliferated again after the eviction of Es Gorg is somewhat ironic, considering that the settlement of Es Gorg began to expand precisely when the Sa Jovería gates were installed. After its initial expansion, which made it one of the first settlements, the installation of these elements that prevented the entry of caravans and motorhomes meant that barely twenty people continued to reside in the area.
This contrasts radically with the site's current image. This type of substandard housing is visible from the entrance, on both sides of the road leading into the car park. Once you have crossed the entrance, however, it is difficult to find a vehicle that does not exhibit these characteristics. These caravans and motorhomes are concentrated on both sides of the site and have a much more diverse population than is usually found in this type of settlement.
For many of them, this is a step back. This is the case for two women who share a vehicle. Although they prefer not to give their names, they explain that they arrived only a few days ago. Since then, they have received «many visits», referring to the institutions that have come to the area to carry out the relevant checks.
As the woman explains, like her, many of those on the site come from the eviction of Es Gorg. «From Can Rova there is practically no one, because they closed before they could come», she adds.
Town Hall
The Ibiza Town Hall has not clarified any possible action protocol for the eviction of the place. Neither have they explained if any actions have been taken by the local police, nor for how long the site will remain closed, or a possible date for reopening. However, the Town Hall did explain that they are working to clear the site of waste.
In this regard, the Town Hall has assured that, together with VALORIZA, the company awarded the cleaning service, "we are working in car parks to remove bulky and flammable waste and thus avoid the risk of fire. In the case of sa Joveria, we have removed 8 tonnes of waste and we maintain a permanent team to act if necessary".
After breaking down this waste by type, 2 lorries have been filled with a total load of 3,500 kilos of scrap metal, 3 bulky platforms of approximately 600 kilos and 2 platforms of 700 kilos.
