A black van operating as a 'pirate taxi' was intercepted in the early hours of Saturday morning at Ibiza airport, as part of the surveillance device against illegal transport promoted by the Consell de Ibiza.

According to the island's director of transport, Roberto Algaba, the driver was issued with an administrative fine of up to 15,000 euros. Mr Algaba welcomed the result of the intervention, writing on social networks: «The night-time pirate will be deprived of the desire to act again».

This is the second pirate vehicle detected at the airport in just 48 hours, highlighting the constant pressure being exerted on this type of illegal practice.
