Pirate taxis and Uber have once again come under the spotlight after two young men shared a video in which they tried to charge them three times as much money to travel from Platja d'en Bossa to Cova Santa. One of them explains that the pirates have asked them for 60 euros for this trip, while the Uber app was asking for up to 45 euros.
In the video, you can see one of the men trying to stop a taxi in the street to make the journey and pay less, as they did not want to pay that much. Fortunately, they managed to flag down an empty taxi and ask the driver how much it would cost to travel from Platja d'en Bossa to Cova Santa. «Whatever the meter says,» the driver replied.
At that moment, they both decide to get into the taxi and the one who is recording the whole time explains that as they have a limiter they are going to charge you exactly what the journey costs. ‘People who charge you by the metre are the only fair taxis in Ibiza’, says the young man, who shows how the device shows how much it costs each time they add up the kilometres.
Finally, the young man shows that they have arrived at Cova Santa and claims to have paid 16 euros for a journey for which they wanted to charge them up to 60 euros.
