Storm Alice caused havoc in Ibiza on Saturday afternoon. Several areas of the island were affected by heavy rain, with Platja d’en Bossa being one of the worst hit. Water flooded several streets there and even entered many businesses.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the emergency services issued a civil protection alert warning of heavy rain, urging people to take ‘maximum precautions’ and avoid travelling or taking part in outdoor activities. «Do not go near torrents, streams or flood-prone areas. Avoid low-lying areas and basements. If water enters your home, go to the upper floors,» the message read.

In the early afternoon, when not a single drop had fallen yet, Platja d’en Bossa was filling up with visitors, most of whom were heading in the same direction: Ushuaïa.

In front of one of the most iconic nightclubs, taxis came and went with visitors ready to bring the season to a close.

The closing weekend is the most eagerly awaited moment for Ibiza’s electronic music fans. Among the attendees were Robert and Sol, from the Canary Islands, who were on their honeymoon on the island and explained that they had travelled to Ibiza ‘just for the closings’. ‘We really like this island. We don’t go out in Las Palmas, we only do it here,’ they said. ‘We’ve been to Pacha, and we have tickets for Ushuaïa, Hï and [UNVRS]. These are weekends we’ve marked in our calendars,’ they added. Between flights, accommodation and tickets, they estimated that ‘it costs us at least 2,500 euros to come to the closings’. For the newlyweds, this weekend is ‘worth it’.

Sarah and Rine, two friends from Los Angeles, had also crossed the Atlantic to experience their first clubbing weekend. «It’s a fun weekend. The hotel and tickets for the two days of parties cost us €500 each, not including flights and meals,‘ explained Rine. ’I can’t wait to see Black Coffee at Hï Ibiza tonight, I love him,« added Sarah excitedly.

For many, these parties are a kind of ritual. ‘There’s something different about Ibiza’s music. Everyone comes here with the same enthusiasm,’ added Daniela.

Unless there are any new developments, and provided that the safety of attendees and staff is guaranteed, establishments such as Hï and UNVRS will go ahead with their closing parties as planned this weekend.
