A 21-year-old foreign tourist is in serious condition after falling approximately three metres at the Marco Polo Hotel in Sant Antoni on Monday. He was treated by the 061 emergency medical services at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday and was quickly transferred to the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic, where he was admitted to the ICU. According to information provided by 061 to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the man has chest and head injuries.
This is not the first case of a person falling from a height this year in this municipality of Ibiza. In this regard, it should be noted that the municipality of Portmany has already had five deaths from falls, compared to only one case recorded during the entire summer last year. In Monday's incident, there have been no reports of fatalities at this time.
At this point, it is important to remember that the deaths of up to five tourists so far this summer after falling from their hotel balconies during their stay on the island prompted Mayor Marcos Serra to request the results of the toxicology reports carried out during the autopsies from the Island Directorate of the General State Administration, as well as any other information that could help clarify the possible causes of these tragic events. The mayor of Portmany highlighted that these events, which have occurred in a short period of time – three of them in the same hotel – contrast with the trends of previous years. In fact, during the entire 2024 season, there was only one fatality due to falls from hotel establishments.
The Government delegation told this newspaper that they will study the request made by the mayor of Portmany and recalled that the Civil Guard is investigating the cases.
